One of the royal reception rooms at the Ulriksdal Palace Theatre, Confidencen. The house was built as a riding school in 1670. It was rebuilt by Carl Fredric Adelcrantz in 1753 as a court theatre for King Adolf Fredric and Queen Lovisa Ulrica.
While working as a guide at the Royal Palace Ulriksdal north of Stockholm in the 1990s I also managed to learn a few things about the 18 th century court theatre Confidencen. It is situated in a separate building in the park and although it was not part of the palace tour, the theatre was of course closely associated with the palace and thus In the mid-18th century, when King Adolf Fredrik and Queen Lovisa Ulrika used the Palace, a court theatre was fitted out in the old riding school. Today the Confidence, as it came to be called, is a popular theatre during the summer season. In 1821 the old Palace building was turned into an invalid hospital. Ulriksdals Slottsteater Confidencen is the oldest Rococo theatre in Sweden and situated in the first urban National Park. It is very easily reached from Central Stockholm by taking the Metro to Bergshamra Station then walking for 20 minutes through a delightful forest.
